Hizb ut-Tahrir Canada’s shared ideology with Syrian HTS Salafist government

An investigation into Hizb ut-Tahrir Canada has found that their ideology is identical to Hayat Tahrir Al-Sham (HTS), an organisation that splintered from ISIS in Syria and engaging in sectarian killings after coming to power through a coup.
Hizb ut-Tahrir Canada became relevant in the public eye after the sudden closure of their planned Khilafah conference last month, and their forced push to hold the conference online. The Canada Files found that despite the parent organisation being in operation since 1953, Hizb ut-Tahrir was able to hold conferences as recently as 2023 and has been operating publicly in Canada since 2009, without any state scrutiny (until this year).
Hizb ut-Tahrir’s operations and actions have largely been well supported by NATO worldwide, especially in the Arab Spring. Meanwhile, ISIS-birthed Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) in Syria, which has now merged into the coup Syrian government, is being welcomed with the red carpet by the same press that vilified Hizb ut-Tahrir, after 15+ years of good relations with Erdogan’s Turkey.
Zionists opposed the Khilafah Conference 2025 on the basis that Hizb ut-Tahrir Canada gave verbal support to Hamas. They also called for Hizb ut-Tahrir Canada to be labelled as a terrorist organisation like Hizb ut-Tahrir was in Germany. The pretext, by and large, has been the support for Hamas and the organisation’s “anti-semitism”.
The mainstream media's stories have missed many important facts, showcasing the hypocritical attitude of the legacy media and NATO politicians towards the ideology of pan-Salafism, an ideology NATO itself is exporting to West Asia.
Behind the legacy media ‘outrage’
Some of the loudest voices opposing the Khilafah Conference 2025 in Canada were the Zionists. Jerusalem Post condemned the planned conference, citing Hizb ut-Tahrir’s support for Hamas. The paper also called for Canada to register Hizb ut-Tahrir as a terrorist organisation on the same basis. The irony of Jerusalem Post’s opposition to Hizb ut-Tahrir’s conference was that it was held to celebrate the fall of the Assad government, which Jerusalem Post was doing just a month earlier on December 4, 2024, openly calling for the revival of “Judeo-Syrian Arabic” in Syria, (more colonial annexation and cultural appropriation).
Zionist “activists” in Canada such as B'nai Brith Canada, the Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs, and the Global Imams Council - headed by infamous Shi’a cleric dropout Imam Mohammad Tawhidi, also echoed the call for terrorist blacklisting against Hizb ut Tahrir in a story published by True North (now Juno News). The Global Imams Council, notably, also openly supports normalisation with Israel through the Abraham Accords. Unsurprisingly, and quite hypocritically, no condemnation of the HTS coup in Syria has come out of the Global Imams Council office at the time of this article’s release.
Highlights of Hizb ut-Tahrir Canada’s extremism
Hizb ut-Tahrir Canada and Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham both share the same ideology rooted in colonial nostalgia for the early Rashidun, Umayyad, Abbasid, and Ottoman Caliphates. In fact, the names of the two organisations are similar, translating to English as “Party of Liberation Canada” and “Liberation Organisation of Syria”, respectively, implying “Islamic” liberation, or restoration of the Caliphate.
This is why Hizb ut-Tahrir openly supports Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham and why an intellectual head of Hizb ut-Tahrir and speaker at the 2023 Khilafah Conference, Dr. Mohammad Malkawi, declared that the Al-Qaeda and ISIS derivatives assembling to coup Syria, and the CIA-funded Arab Spring as a whole, were examples of the Islamic revolution in his post-financial collapse 2012 paper entitled “Fall of Capitalism and Rise of Islam” (Pg. 10).
As a side note, fellow 2023 Khilafah Conference speaker Khalid Abu Aishah also posted a biography of Osama Bin Laden in a positive light, and posted a video of someone who was kidnapped by the Taliban and converted to Islam in his former blog, Sri Lanka Mujahedin. The blog, which has since been taken down, was named in reverence to the Salafist terrorism in Sri Lanka. The noted slogan of the blog was based on a verse of the Qur’an which states: “Every soul of this Earth will taste death” (Surah al-Imran, Ayat 185).
More on Hizb ut Tahrir’s extremist supporters in the West Asian Intelligentsia
There was a disturbing whitewashing of the post-Mohammad Rashidun Caliphate in Dr. Mohammad Malkawi’s “Fall of Capitalism and Rise of Islam” that falsely declared that there was no ‘national or ethnic supremacy’ (Pg. 151) despite the Rashidun Caliphate’s Arab Supremacist inheritance and marriage laws under Umar, and that there was stability despite the Ridda wars, the assassination of Umar ibn Al Khattab, the tribalist uprising and assassination of Uthman ibn Affan, the Battle of Jamel, and the Battle of Siffin.
The colonial expansion and forced seizure of land through a perverse application of the Kharaj system, a system of land tenure and land rent payments applied on conquered territory, was also notably glorified when he quoted Tyrant Harun al-Rasheed, the fifth Abbasid Caliph, in saying to a cloud in the sky while boasting about the size of the empire “You may drop your rain wherever you wish; your Kharaj will eventually come back to me.” (Pg. 205)
The extremism of Hizb ut-Tahrir is well known, but the outrage against them is selective, and only applied when they maintain “ideological consistency” in supporting the contemporary opponents of NATO with an Islamic nature, such as Hamas.
Hizb ut-Tahrir had members who were involved in a July 30, 2005, terrorist attack in Uzbekistan, a Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) - informal post-Soviet alliance that includes Belarus and Russia country.
Canada is also hesitant to register Hizb ut-Tahrir as a terrorist organisation due to its years of service to NATO colour revolutions:
“It is no secret that Hizb ut Tahrir has been involved in a number of failed coup attempts in the Middle East”
Unnamed member of Hizb ut-Tahrir, Vasiliyev and Others vs Russia (Pg. 4)
Hizb ut-Tahrir’s “service” to NATO, particularly in Turkey
Hizb ut-Tahrir serves as the political attack dog for any opposition to the Turkish and NATO-backed coup against Syria in December 2024. Hizb ut-Tahrir Canada’s speaker and party member, Dr. Gelani vocally supported the Syria HTS coup during the Online Khilafah Conference 2025 (1:19:47-1:20:14). Hizb ut-Tahrir’s Turkish chapter, in their propaganda outlet Koklu Degisim, made declarations in support of the Turkish backed coup, and even justified the sectarian reprisals, declaring that “the price will be atonement”. These comments were notably directed at the Shias and Alawites who opposed the overthrow of Assad.
Glorifying the “Islamic character” of the revolution in this manner, despite the contradictions with the supposed goal of reclaiming all of the former Islamic Caliphates’ territory, is likely the quid pro quo with Turkey for:
Overlooking the arms cache held by the party throughout the country discovered in 2009
Turkish support of the ‘Syrian revolution’, which Hizb ut-Tahrir had been trying to initiate since the 2000s, at the expense of many of its own members, who were imprisoned in Sednaya
The Online Khilafah Conference 2025 could thinly veil Hizb ut-Tahrir’s pro-Salafi sectarian outlook when they condemned Iran for “inaction” (15:52-16:04), despite Iran being one of the few states to attack Israel during the genocide, and the only state openly arming the resistance. The Conference also failed to even mention Yemen’s contributions to the fight against Israel. Both Yemen and Iran have their militaries labelled as terrorist organisations by NATO.
NATO’s treatment towards their Salafi proxies in the International racial caste
The sudden forced closure of Hizb ut-Tahrir Canada’s conference has demonstrated that House Slaves, particularly amidst the current political transformation of the NATO states, must be on their best behaviour. The loyalty must remain towards the “hands that feed them” and cannot be used to try to advance their own agenda, from an ideology shared with HTS, lest they be whipped and disciplined while in the House or the attic, or thrown out to work with their fellow slaves in the field.
“Freedom of expression”, under certain ideological limits, would have tolerated Hizb ut-Tahrir Canada’s conference just a few years ago, and in fact did in 2023. However, the circumstances are much different now when there is a failure to deter the Axis of Resistance and a failure on the part of NATO to ethnically cleanse an “undesirable” population due to proscribed groups like Hezbollah and Hamas. Even the House Slaves will be guilty by association if they speak out of turn or say the wrong thing. Only time will tell whether House Slaves will be spectators, participants, or tragic victims in the drama of NATO’s final season.
Hizb ut-Tahrir Canada and Public Safety Canada did not respond to The Canada Files’ request for comment.
